TITUSVILLE, Florida – Jim Pugh, retired educator and beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend, went home to Jesus on Friday (March 28, 2014).
Jim was born in Barlow, Ohio, in 1937. A 1955 graduate of Marietta High School in Marietta, Jim was a high school athletic stand-out, playing football, basketball, and baseball.
After serving his country as a U.S. Marine, he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts from Ohio University (OU) in Athens, Ohio. Jim was a proud member of OU’s 1960 national championship football team, playing guard and linebacker.
Following graduation, Jim began his career as an educator, first in Licking Heights, Ohio, and then at Marietta High School where he coached and taught technical drawing and industrial arts. Arriving in Titusville in 1967, he continued his teaching and coaching career at Titusville High School. “Coach” Pugh was a mentor and role model to students and faculty alike, earning Teacher of the Year honors in 1985. He retired in 1995.
Jim is survived by Sharon, his wife of 46 years; his brother, Robert Pugh of Barlow, Ohio; sons, Brad and Damon; daughters, Bari (Favre) and Barbara (Kierstead); and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday (April 2, 2014) from 6 to 8 p.m. at North Brevard Funeral Home. A service celebrating his life will be held Thursday (April 3, 2014) at 10 a.m. at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
