Lillian Deist, 95, of Beverly, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Heartland of Marietta.
She was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Lowell, Ohio, daughter of Leo and Stella Bauerbach Schilling.
She graduated from Beverly High School in 1936. She was the oldest member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Beverly, member of the Morgan County Historical Society, Lower Muskingum Historical Society, Farmeretts, Friendly Circle Quilt Club, Catholic Women’s Club and a 30-year 4-H leader. She loved her family, her friends, her community and her church. She was married Dec. 31, 1941, to Cecil R. Deist, who died Nov. 29, 1988.
She is survived by a son, Robert Deist and wife Mary Jeanne of Beverly; a daughter, Nancy Gribble and husband David of Cutler; grandchildren, Christy (Larry) Curry, Jeremy Gribble, Jennifer Cleveland, Sandi (Joel) Detwiler and Michael (Melanie) Payne; and great-grandchildren, Drake and Rhett Curry, Nathan, Zachary and Maria Payne and Justin and Wesley Detwiler. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Fredrick Deist; two brothers, Louis and Leonard Schilling; and a sister, Anna Brogmus.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 14, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, with Monsignor Robert Kawa officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. A rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. today.
