Michael Popp III

Michael Popp III, passed away on November 25, 2015 in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 19, 1934 in Grant Town, W.Va. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Glenville State College in 1956, where he played football. He was a head football coach in Kingwood, W.Va. from 1959 to 1965. He moved to Marietta in 1966, where he was a math teacher and assistant coach at Marietta High School. His passions were football, gardening, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael II and Mary Popp; brothers, Vic and Harry; sisters, Florence, Rosie and Mary Ann; and his grandson, Aaron Scott.

He is survived by Gail Popp; his sisters, Eva Popp, Elinor Fox and Delores Doak; and many nieces and nephews; his son, Michael Popp IV (Sharon); daughter, Angela Scott (Steve); granddaughter, Sara Scott (Johnny); great-grandchildren, Quinn Scott and Maya Mills; daughter, Tina Savage (Walt); grandson, Dylan Wells; granddaughter, Lyndsay Savage Bowers (Joey).

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday November 28, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in memory of Michael Popp III to the Strecker Cancer Center.
