Donald L. Otto

Donald L. Otto, 81, of Marietta, passed away at 6:19 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 7, 1935, in Marietta to Robert James Otto and Grace L. White Pfaff.

Don was a member of Sixth and Washington Street Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict serving in Japan. He was a graduate of Marietta High School, class of 1953 and retired from the Marietta Times in the composing room. He enjoyed his post retirement job at the O’Neill Center. He never met a stranger.

On March 17, 1972, he married Ruth I. Davis who survives with two sons and one daughter, John (Joyce) Otto of Marietta, James (Laura) Otto of Lincoln, Neb., Jennifer Duty of Belpre; three granddaughters, Haleigh and Hannah Otto of Lincoln, Neb. and Kelli Plemons of Marietta; sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Fred) McAlarney of Belpre; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Harry Pfaff; stepmother, Elsie Otto; and brother, Bobby Otto.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush officiating. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
