Thomas J. Holmes, 60, formerly of Marietta, passed away from Life at his home in Candor, N.C., October 27, 2016.

He was born November 25 1955, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Richard D. and Gloria J. Holmes (Goubeaud).

He was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 73. After graduation he went on to serve in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne, Fort Bragg, N.C. After service he received degrees from Fayetteville Technical Institute and Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. in electronic data processing, class of 83. He retired from Grede Foundries Inc. as a pattern maker in Candor, N.C.

Tom’s many hobbies and pastimes included running, scuba diving, and skydiving. He collected and renovated firearms as a certified gunsmith. He was a huge Jimmy  Buffet  fan. As a certified skydiving instructor, he volunteered for many years on the committee for the annual Bridge Day Festival at the New River Gorge , Fayetteville, W.Va., as well as a participant with over 50 jumps off the bridge.

He is survived by his three brothers and a sister, Richard Holmes of Marietta, Mark Goubeaud (Christina) of Vincent, Ohio, David Landry (Melinda ) of Clearwater, Fla. and Sheree Fulton (Roy) of Marietta. Nieces and nephews, Derek and Garrett Holmes, Jessica (Holmes) Lemasters (Tim) of Marietta, Ross Fulton of Pittsburgh, Pa., Tony Sloan (Rodney) of Newport, Ohio, Taylor and Sam Goubeaud of Vincent, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepfather, Richard Goubeaud of Marietta.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Richard Donald Holmes; and mother, Gloria Julia Goubeaud.
