David Morris, 82, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by many of those who loved him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Shirley Morris, whom he married 62 years ago.
David was born to Roy and Gladys Morris on July 28, 1934, in Marietta Ohio. At that time, he joined a family of eight brothers and sisters. His sister Marty and his brother Roy Jr. (Elaine) are surviving. Preceding him in death were Karl, Elmer, Dick, Doris Ann, Lib and Tede.
His surviving children are Brenda and son Jackson; Darlene Wagner, her husband Kevin and children Chad, Tiffany and Wesley; Roger and son Stephen; and Scott, his wife Trish and children Adam, Colton, and Hunter. A daughter, Deborah Kay preceded him in death. He also has eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was a member of Marietta First Church of the Nazarene and he counted many of his fellow church members as family.
For many years Dave owned Morris Grocery. When you have a passion to make sure people are fed, owning a grocery store is an excellent career choice. He and his father also operated Roy’s Antiques. He continued his love for antiques well after Roy’s Antiques ceased operations.
Dave’s spirit will live on through the lives of all those his kindness touched and his heart will forever live on the bricks of his beloved Marietta.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Marietta First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Terry Schmelzenbach will be officiating. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral Home.
