Robert Francis Bann

Robert Francis Bann, 95, formerly of Marietta, passed away February 28, 2017.

He was born June 30, 1921 in New Baden, Illinois, a son of the late James William Bann Sr. and Dolores Adel Kassebaum Bann. Bob was the second oldest of ten children; Corine died in infancy; and the following members of the family preceded Bob. J. W. Bann, Jr; Ralph; Gloria Hebenstreit (Joe); Paul (Virla Garbs); Marilyn Sachs (Charles); a brother in law Gerald Chapple and Carl’s wife Donna Carlock. Surviving are two brothers Carl and Jim (Geri Pagakis.) and a sister Sue Chapple. Also surviving are Bills wife Mildred Cowell and Ralph’s wife Lucille Bailey.

Robert received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois in 1943 and his M.S. in Organic Chemistry at Rutgers University in 1959. He was employed by General Chemical Company of St. Louis, Illinois from 1943- 1944, served in the US Army from 1944-1946 and was employed by the American Cyanamid Company in Bound Brook, NJ from 1946-1976 and in Marietta, OH from 1976-1984 where he retired as Plant Manager.

Robert had four children, Charles, Robert, James and Kenneth with his first wife Ruth Asbury, who passed away in 1957. Robert was subsequently married to Elizabeth Squire Repp for 52 years from 1960 until her passing in 2013.

Robert was involved in many community activities including, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Museum, United Way, Marietta Memorial Hospital, Glenwood Retirement Community, Senior Reading Club, YMCA, and The American Legion.

He is survived by his three sons, Charles A. Bann and (Elizabeth) of NH, James W. Bann and (Susan) of Colorado, and Kenneth Bann and (Regina) of NJ, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
