Richard L. Hughes

Richard “Dick” Lyden Hughes, 89, of Marietta, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Akron, Ohio, a son of John and Mary Lyden Hughes.

Dick came to Marietta with Remington Rand and retired as an accountant. He served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Kent State University and a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. He married Jean Ambler who preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Thomas A. Hughes of Marietta, Timothy L. (Julie A.) Hughes of Georgetown, Ky., and Mary F. (Thomas Graves) Hughes of Atlanta Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Jancinda Burton, Justin Hughes, Isaiah Hughes, Sunshine Hughes, Sarah Hughes, Phillip Hughes, Amanda Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Elizabeth Graves and Sarah Graves; and two great grandchildren, Harmony and Trevin Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, John Hughes.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption with interment in the New St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
