Mary E. Rauch

Mary E. Rauch, of Waterford, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 29, 2017.

She was born on May 24, 1935, in Little Hocking, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Floyd E. and Sarah J. Sayre.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marietta and a longtime member of the Morning Glory Circle, as well as the Adult Fellowship Class. On Oct. 25, 1955, she married Lawrence E. Rauch who preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1974.

Mary raised four sons and one daughter. She loved to read her entire life and she passed her love of reading on to her children and grandchildren. If you saw Mary, you were bound to see a book nearby. She also loved to play cards. Up until the end of her earthly life, she continued to play cards with her four boys. She also loved to share her knowledge of books and life with her girls, talking with them for hours and passing her talents of baking along to them as well.

Mary was a longtime entrepreneur and local business woman. She had a zeal for all things auctions, flea markets and yard sales. She rarely ever passed on the opportunity to rummage through a potential gold mine of local second hand treasures. This passion was perhaps second to her ability and enjoyment of reselling these treasures at venues such as Rinky Dinks where she operated a booth for a number of years. Mary’s initial foray into the retail businessplace was as a clerk at the Hippodrome Colony Theatre. She often spoke fondly of that time in her life.

Mary is survived by five children, Larry (Laila) of Escondido, Calif., Jim (Kelly) of Menifee, Calif., Katy (Benny) of Waterford, Ohio, Joe (gf Suzanne) of Lititz, Pa., and Ed (Victoria) of Aguanga, Calif.; as well as sisters, Ruth Davison, Nora (Fred) Bruce and Janice (Jerry) Wilcox; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Sayre.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Charles Sayre Sr.; and brother-in-law, Dean Davison Sr.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Friends of the Beverly Library, PO Box 728, Beverly, OH 45715.

She is missed.
