Donald L. Porter

Donald L. Porter, 93, of Marietta, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Harmar Place in Marietta.

He was born on March 30, 1924, in Marietta, a son of Raymond and Lulu Leibrand Porter.

Don retired in 1989 from Kardex where he was a cost accountant. He also worked for Marietta Paint and Color for 26 years. Don was a 50-year plus member of Masonic Lodge #390 F.&A.M., Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite, Marietta Shrine Club, Aladdin Temple, the Elks Club, and the Moose Lodge. For over 50 years Don served as fishing and hunting license contractor and trustee of the Washington County Fish and Game Club. Don was in charge of purchasing prizes for the annual Fishing Derby so that every participant would receive a prize. The Fishing Derby continues each May at the club in Whipple. In his earlier years, Don enjoyed playing softball, hunting and fishing. More recently, he continued to enjoy a good card game with friends.

On Aug. 16, 1948, he married Dorothy Fulton who preceded him in death in 2012. The couple has two sons, Steve (Teresa) and Alan (Sherry) both of Marietta. He has five grandchildren: Chris (Darcie) Porter, Todd (Sara) Porter, Alan Porter, Andy (Kassie) Porter and Autumn (Tyler) Eppley. There are four great-grandchildren: Henry, Audrey, Eva and Sarina Porter. Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Richard.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at First Congregational Church, 318 Front St. in Marietta with the Rev. Linda Steelman officiating with a burial to follow in Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at Hadley Funeral Home, Reno Chapel today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Masonic Rite will be held at 8 p.m. today.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Harmar Place especially Patsy, Jennie and John.
