Lucy Jache, 91, passed away suddenly and peacefully in the arms of her daughter Heidi on Sunday evening, September 10, 2017. She was born May 1, 1926. Lucy learned to love the beach while spending summers of her childhood in New Haven, Connecticut. She then became enamored with the Appalachian Mountains while working at a hotel in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Lucy finally realized her dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail after she retired from teaching high school chemistry. Chemistry class is where Lucy met her husband. She chose him as her lab partner, and they remained partners in life until his passing in 2010. Lucy became interested in photography after being handed the keys to the darkroom next door to her Chemistry lab. She studied photography and was the yearbook advisor as well. In addition to teaching, Lucy was an accomplished homemaker. She made most of her daughters’ clothing until they were too old to appreciate it. She made her own wedding gown and remade it for two more generations of brides. She, also, was an excellent cook. Most appreciated was her Julia Childs phase.
Lucy is joining her husband, Albert Jache, and her brother, Jack Hauslein, and sister, Alice Harper in heaven. She is missed by her loving children; Ann Jache (Len Smiley), Ellen Hoium (Dale), Philip Jache (Karen) and Heidi Jache. Her grandchildren; Lara Hoium (Eric Siddall), Dana Styer (Tony), Peter Hoium (Katlin Harriman), Clara Hoium, Lester Smiley (Anna Andersen), Ellen Smiley, Andrew Hout, and Rachel Hout, will never forget her love and guidance. Lastly Lucy has left lasting memories in lives of her great-grandchildren, Estella Styer, and Cooper Styer.
