Barker (Bart) Wilson Stanley III
This earth lost one of its best. Barker (Bart) Wilson Stanley III, 67, of Marietta, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2017, at his home after a prolonged illness. Bart was born January 3, 1950, in Marietta, OH, to Bart and Lois Stanley. He had lived in Marietta his entire life. In 1969 he graduated from Marietta High School, where he always represented Marietta well winning multiple awards in cross country and track. Bart worked for the Marietta City Fire Department for 26 years. He was known for his sense of humor, his straight forward approach to getting the job done and saving lives.
Bart loved spending time outdoors with his buddies hunting and fishing. Also playing pool, bowling, golfing, and enjoyed many a good card game.
Bart was a longtime member of the VFW Post #5108, American Legion #64, BPO Elks #477, Eagles #4487 and the Moose Lodge #1823. He enjoyed “making his rounds” everyday, sharing stories and the many friendships with the other members.
Bart was preceded in death by his father, Barker Wilson Stanley Jr. He is survived by his mother, Lois Stanley of Plain City, UT; his sister, Jinnie Stanley (Marc) Russell of Plain City, UT; his children, Angela Stanley, Bart (Logan) Stanley IV and his two grandchildren, Trista and Levi Stanley all of Marietta.
At his request his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Bart’s life at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, with a memorial service to immediately follow. Food and fellowship to follow the service at the VFW Post #5108, 319 Pike St., Marietta.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hadley Funeral Home, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, OH 45750 to offset funeral expenses. Any extra contributions will be donated to the Humane Society and the Marietta City Fire Department. Thank you.
