Cullen B. Sutton

Cullen B. Sutton, 75 of Marietta, formerly of Parkersburg, WV, died on November 16, 2017, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born in Selma, AL, on October 5, 1942, son of the late Clive Brooks and Winona Bonnett Sutton. He received his undergraduate degree at Asbury College and Masters degree from WVU. He spent his career teaching art at several area schools, including Williamstown Junior and Senior High schools, Nash, Neale, Criss, Emerson, and Mineral Wells elementary schools. He retired from the Wood County Board of Education after 38 years of service. Additionally, he was an adjunct faculty instructor for WVU-P, Marietta College and Ohio Valley College. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he used his talent in art as a member of the Communication Committee. He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 97 for many years, helping shape the lives of many local boys and mentoring several to become Eagle Scouts. He was a computer enthusiast, who built his own computer. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hiking and canoeing with his buddy, Leon, and was an avid caver and a member of the Parkersburg Area Grotto for many years. He was known and loved for his sense of humor, and his life exemplified the scout law: he was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Survivors include his wife Sharon Sutton, a daughter, Jennifer (Jim) McDonel, of Radford, VA, and their children, Kate and Grant; a son, Brooks (Heather) Sutton of Seabrook, TX, and their children, Adriana, James and Rose; and a sister, Nancy (Chet) Thomas, of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Pastor Mike Seeley and Chaplin Patricia Vargas officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
