Thurman Edward Hill
Thurman Edward Hill, 84, of Marietta, OH, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by family. He was born September 23, 1933 in Marietta to Marjorie Schultheis Hill and Merle T. Hill.
Thurman graduated from Marietta High School and received a BS Degree in Geology from Ohio University. He served in the U.S. Army with the 8th Medical Battalion.
He married Julianne S. Hill July 14, 1956. He retired from Gulf Oil Operations Division after 25 years of service. He later worked as secretary-clerk for Local Labor Union 639 in Marietta.
He was a lifetime member of BPOE Lodge #477 and was an avid hunter and golfer.
For many years he was a member and officer of the Marietta Gun Club and various conservation associations. In 1965, he and lifelong friend George Williams were National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association Champions at the national match in Friendship, IN.
Thurman was predeceased by his wife, Julianne, and his sister, Roma Hepburn.
He is survived by his daughters, Lauren J. Hill and her husband David O’Brien of Taylors, SC and Anne V. Etter and her husband Robert of Marietta. There are three grandchildren, Madeleine Fields (Brady), Jessica Etter and Benjamin Hill O’Brien and numerous granddogs to whom he was devoted. He is also survived by two sisters, Velma Eichmiller and Kay Cline (Ralph), both of Marietta.
Hadley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for cremation with interment in the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden. A memorial service will be at the church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to BPOE Lodge #477, 414 Colegate Dr., Marietta, OH 45750; or to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, 90 Mount Tom Road, Marietta, OH 45750.
