James F. Cline
James F. Cline, 89, formerly of New Matamoras, died peacefully in Marietta, Ohio on December 24, 2017. He was born April 13, 1928, the son of the late Charles T. and Lisette Amos Cline.
Among his many proud accomplishments were rising to Master Sergeant and chief of gun battery during the Korean War. He was the first manager of the Big Bear store in Marietta. He also was the first manager of the Harts Supercenter in Portsmouth, Ohio and was the owner of Cline’s Variety and Hardware storein New Matamoras, Ohio for 20 years until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Lions Club helping thousands of people receive eye glasses who could not afford them. He served as president, treasurer and other duties in the Frontier Lions Club and designed the arrowhead emblem that represented the club. He was a member of the New Matamoras United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles T. and Lisette Amos Cline, by three brothers, Charles, Eugene and twin brother Jack, and his wife of 59 years Jane Collins Cline.
He is survived by his three children, Suzie Henry (Dave) of Pittsburgh, PA, Charlie (Gail) of Houston TX and Jim Cline of New Matamoras, OH, three grandchildren Rachel, Kristen and Nathan and one great grandson Levi, his sister-in-law Grace Trimm of Sarasota, FL, niece Ann Murphy of Sarasota FL., nephew Bryan Trimm of Houston TX, and three nieces Cassie Strecker, Marie Armann and Myra Holpp.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Hadley Funeral Home New Matamoras Chapel, 700 Main St., New Matamoras with Rev. Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the funeral home.
