Daniel L. Brannan

Daniel Lee Brannan, age 70, lost his courageous battle with cancer at his home on Daniel Island, SC surrounded by his family, Thursday, April 5, 2018. He was born January 2, 1948 in Marietta Ohio to James & Esther Van Fossen Brannan Abbott.

Dan was a graduate of Marietta High School. He served 2 tours in the Vietnam War and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Dan received his degree in aviation at The Ohio State University where he had a successful 26 year career as a commercial Airline Captain for DHL Airways.

He was a Corporate Executive at DHL Airways. He served as MEC Chairman and Executive Vice President for ALPA, International , a senior VP of Flight operations for AStar Air Cargo, formerly DHL Airlines.

In December 28, 1985 he married Beth McLaughlin of Parkersburg, WV and together they have three children, Lauren, Michael and Daniel.

Upon retiring from aviation, Dan’s passion became his writing. He is the author of 2 books. He became a speaker and author. He became an inspiration to many through his writings. Some of his favorite times were traveling, working out, playing basketball, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Beth, his daughter Lauren Karlsen (Ben); sons, Michael Patrick and Daniel James; brother Jeff and sister Rebecca, as well as many in laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Esther M. Brannan Abbott and father James L. Brannan.

His funeral Mass will be held at The Basilica of the Assumption of St Mary’s in Marietta, OH on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Dan will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, time is pending.
