Margaret Jane Davis

Margaret Jane Davis

Margaret Jane Davis, 78, was born Margaret Jane Walters, the fourth of eight children, in Marietta, Ohio on March 22, 1940. She entered her heavenly home after a 5 year battle with cancer on August 30, 2018 in Visalia, California.

Margaret, “Jane” to her family and friends, was known for her tender heart, exuberant personality and passionate faith. She was born into a small, rustic house in picturesque Churchtown, Ohio. Her family eventually settled in the nearby village of Lowell where she spent her teenage years. A member of a large family, Jane spent her childhood working on her family farm and playing along the nearby Muskingum River.

Jane graduated from Fort Frye High School in Beverly, Ohio in 1958. 4 years later, at the young age of 22, Jane and her younger sister Erma (Jeanne) made the long trek out to California, where they settled with their older sister Martha Henniger and her husband Don who was stationed at NAS Lemoore. Not long after she arrived in California, Jane gained employment as a secretary at Armstrong Rubber Company in Hanford, California. On February 14, 1970 she married Larry Davis of Marietta, Oklahoma. Over the following five years she and Larry produced four children together: two sons and two daughters.

After several moves in the early 70’s, including stints in Chicago, Illinois and Livermore, California, she and Larry eventually settled in Visalia, California in 1978. For many years she and Larry owned and operated a successful real estate appraisal firm together. Except for a few years living in Susanville, California, Jane would call Visalia home for the rest of her life.

A woman of exceptional faith, Jane was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Visalia, where she happily attended and served as a loving reflection of Christ for many years.

In addition to her faith, Jane’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother to her four children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she loved to hug and kiss every chance she got.

Jane was a very energetic woman and held many occupations during her lifetime: She was a proud homemaker, secretary, bookkeeper, mortgage loan processor, insurance agent and real estate agent.

Jane will be fondly remembered by all who knew her as a perpetually happy woman of strong faith who loved everyone she met.

She is survived by her son Stephen Davis and wife Tammy of Visalia, CA; daughter Kristina League and husband Joshua of Tulare, CA; son Gregory Davis and wife Josette of Visalia, CA; daughter Mary Davis and FiancÈ David Anderson of Visalia, CA; sister Martha Henniger and husband Donald of Visalia, CA; sister Helen McKenna and husband Dick of Marietta, OH; brother Robert Walters and wife Miriam of Marietta, OH, sister Jeanne Webber of Fresno, CA; and brother James Walters and wife Brenda of Reedley, CA.
