William Francis Duer

William Francis Duer, 93, of Chardon, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019. Born in Marietta, Ohio on July 20, 1925 he was the son of the late Charles E.T. and Hester Duer. William was a graduate of Ohio University with a B.S. Ed with Honor – M. Ed. He held teaching positions in both Ohio and West Virginia and was a gifted musician as a Principal and Solo Trumpet during his college years and while stationed with the United States Coast Guard Band during World War II. William was an Adjudicator and Guest Conductor of bands in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania. He held honors of Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honorary) and was a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. William was a brilliant wood worker and was known for gifting his beautiful pens. William loved his family and delighted in having visits with his children and grandchildren. The love of his life was his wife Pat, whom he cared for until her death in 2017. William was a role model of love and dedication to many.

William is survived by his four children, Julie (Craig) Magas, Charles (Cecilia) Duer, Craig (Penny) Duer, and Curt Duer; grandchildren, Jill Ellis, Christopher (Tauri) Duer, Jonathon (Heather) Duer, Nathaniel (Diane) Duer, Alyssa Duer, Ashton (Courtney) Duer, Cassandra Duer, Carder Duer, Patrick Ellis Jr, Craig Magas, and Jackson Ellis; great grandchildren, Arabella Duer, Lachlan Duer, Aliyah Duer and Bryson Duer; sister-in-law Ann Duer; many nieces and nephews; and his constant companion, his Boston Terrier, Lacey. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Lowell and Bernice Russell, siblings, Delmer Duer, Glen Duer, Mary Ellen Carlson, Sara Jane Miller; and his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Duer.

The family will greet friends between 6PM and 8PM on Thursday Jan. 10, 2019 at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan.11, 2019 at 11 a.m. with Roger Rush officiating.
