Charles Richard Prunty Sr., Ph.D.
Mr. Charles Richard “Dick” Prunty Sr., Ph.D., of Southport, died Saturday May 11, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Prunty was born in Beverly, Ohio on December 7, 1933 and was the son of the late Gordon and Helen Juanita Stutes Prunty. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Doreen and Pat and a brother Bob. He retired as a welder in the railroad industry and then later on in life received a Ph.D. in Theology. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge #33 Oxford, Mississippi and spent much of his life in the Marietta, Ohio area.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Prunty; four children, Charles Richard Prunty, Jr. of Arizona, Robin Prunty of Colorado, Margaret Prunty of Oklahoma, Mark Prunty of Arizona; two step-children, Wayne Brookover of Maryland, Karen O’Grady of Ohio, a nephew, James Davis of Rocky Mount and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a time of visitation with the family on Tuesday morning May 14th beginning at 9:30 until 10:00 at Peacock-Newnam &White Funeral Service, 1411 N. Howe Street, Southport followed by a graveside service at 10:15 am at Cape Fear Memorial Park, Hwy 211, Southport officiated by Dr. H. Edward Pruitt.
