A false reading from the four-million-gallon Glendale water reservoir led to the city asking Marietta residents to conserve water. The Glendale Reservoir had less than 500,000 gallons of water, leading to low water pressure. Only four water wells are operational; a fifth well is out of operation because of chemical contamination, while a sixth is shut down for maintenance.

Three Washington County families received more than $17,000 in welfare overpayments over a five-year period. Welfare payments were made while individuals were drawing salaries from other jobs.

Kroger in Marietta will offer A&W root beer floats for $1 to raise funds to help children with physical disabilities. Proceeds will go toward Easter Seal Society programs such as horseback riding, therapy, Camp Challenge and Day Camp.

100 years ago

Money will be raised during the fall for the drilling of a test oil well in Marietta. The project was put on hold during the flood.

Both fire departments responded to a fire at the Knox home on Ward Street. The fire burned a small hole in the roof, but the fire was quickly extinguished.
