Hard work pays off for 3 area athletes

Congratulations to this area’s track and field standouts who earned all-state accolades over the weekend by finishing in the top eight of their event.

Just think about that accomplishment. The top eight in all of Ohio.

Specifically, we want to recognize the success of:

– Warren senior Raelyn Gardner in the pole vault.

– Waterford senior Ally Rohrer in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.75.

– Waterford junior Maddy Sury placed sixth in the 800 meter run to earn her second all-Ohio award of the state meet. On Friday, Sury placed second in the state in the long jump.

Sury thanks the hard work of her coach for this year’s success. She’s gearing up to work even harder in going for the gold next spring at the 2015 state meet.

With competitors like Gardner, Rohrer and Sury setting the bar high for local athletes, thinking about all-state surely is a goal that’s within reach.
