Many ways to give to area VFD’s year-round

As summer enters its last full month, ice cream social season is winding down, but that doesn’t mean support for the area’s local volunteer fire departments should.

There are still a few socials to attend, including one in Oak Grove on Saturday. The departments count on the events as major fundraisers but there are other ways to give year-round.

For many that could be a gift of time. Most departments need more volunteers, especially younger generations.

For others, a monetary donation may be more appropriate.

Many men and women volunteer their time for these departments to keep local residents and our property safe. We need to be sure to support them so that they can have up-to-date equipment and safety gear.

We all hope to never be in the position to need the volunteers, whether it be at the scene of a car accident or a fire, but in reality of us, many of us will be.

There are many causes worthy of our efforts and donations. But try to remember our community fire departments, after the last scoop of ice cream has been served.
