Register to vote and get in on the action
The first of three presidential debates has the nation talking, but are you part of the conversation?
You can be. Register to vote by Oct. 11 in Ohio, and you can cast your ballot on Election Day.
The nation will choose its next president, and locally voters will also decide other races and issues, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016. But you can only participate if you are registered.
The Washington County Board of Elections says the following criteria must be met in order to vote in November:
– You must be a United States citizen.
– You must be 18 years old on or before Nov. 8.
– You must be a resident of Ohio 30 days immediately before the election.
– You must not be incarcerated for a felony.
Registering to vote, or changing your name or address on your voter registration, is easy. You can do so at the following:
– The Bureau of Motor Vehicles
– Any public library
– Public high schools and vocational schools
– Designated agencies that provide public assistance or disability programs
– Treasurer’s office
– Through the mail or on line.
And don’t forget, absentee voting is an option for Ohio residents who can’t get to their assigned polling place on Election Day.

The Washington County Board of Elections office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The location is 204 Davis Ave., Marietta.
