Solar panels on churches save money, and energy

Over the years, we’ve gradually seen local school districts and businesses start to take advantage of energy savings by installing solar panels.

Now the trend seems to have expanded to churches and we couldn’t be happier.

This month, the Unitarian Universalist Church installed solar panels, possibly the first church in Washington County to do so.

Once the project is paid off, they are expected to realize 66 percent energy savings.

It’s a good move that some houses of worship may have not yet considered.

Not only is it very beneficial to the environment but also to the budget, something of great consideration to many churches.

Church buildings, with their often intricate and historic architecture, tend to be maintained and kept for much longer than most other types of structures. Putting in solar panels could be considered a very long-term investment that could pay off for decades or centuries to come.

Congratulations to the Unitarian church for figuring out a plan of action and making it come to fruition. We believe we’ll see more of our area churches doing the same.
