Give First Fridays a chance at succeeding
Tonight will mark the first of a new downtown event–First Fridays.
We’re anxious to give it a try and we hope others do, too.
We talk to people all the time who are anxious for more events downtown and evening hours for downtown merchants so we’re happy to see that there is a brand new option for residents and visitors to explore.
Participating businesses will be open throughout the evening on the first Friday of each month and there will be special attractions and refreshments. For the inaugural event, there is a theme of fire and ice and locally-created ice sculptures will be displayed along Front Street.
That seems like a fresh idea that we haven’t seen in downtown. We look forward to seeing what themes are incorporated in the months to come.
After years of successful events like the Merchants and Artist Walks, it could be easy to just sit back and continue what has worked. We commend those at Marietta Main Street and in the downtown community for thinking of new ways to draw people in and keep the city vital.
Let’s all give this new event a try and support our local business owners.
