High school students set example for all of us

Not every teenager thinks very often about the community around them and the issues that might exist.

Even fewer identify problems and then take action against them.

But a group of local high school students is doing just that, through a program designed to give foster parents a break.

Members of the Warren High School Health Professionals Affinity Community (HPAC) decided to do what they could to help those affected by the drug epidemic in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

They came up with something doable and age-appropriate by offering to babysit foster children so that parents could take a well-deserved break. Many of the children in local foster care are there as a result of addiction in the home.

We think it’s commendable that these teens really thought about solutions and steps they could take to help.

We also hope many hard-working foster parents take them up on their offer to take a break this Saturday. Fostering can be heartbreaking, exhausting–though rewarding–work and it’s important to recharge.

This kind of program is great for the children, the parents and the students organizing it.
