Honor veterans each and every day

Today is Veterans Day and Marietta will honor our members of the Armed Services, past and present, with a parade.

The schools in Washington County spent the week hosting celebrations and inviting all area veterans to come be serenaded with patriotic songs and receive thanks.

We are grateful our community does these things and encourage everyone to take part. But once the calendar turns to Nov. 12, we hope just as many people will take time to pay attention to, listen to and honor our nation’s bravest.

Veterans Day is just once a year but we need to remember these men and women each and every day. It’s because of them that we are living life as we are, enjoying freedoms crucial to a democracy.

If you have veterans in your life, ask them for their stories–if they want to share. Spend time with them, find out how you can support them and make sure they know they are important every day of the year. It’s the least we can do.
