Send Help and feed the hungry

More than 100 families turned out to accept free food being distributed by the Southeast Ohio Food Bank at the Washington County Fairgrounds Wednesday.

It shows the need for food is significant.

Many of our friends, neighbors and families need help getting the food they need and many turn to our local food pantries for food week in and week out.

Some are unemployed, but many work, or are retired. They have a limited income coming in, but it isn’t enough to cover their needs.

You can help. Our annual Send Help campaign is under way and asks readers to consider a donation to one of 13 Mid-Ohio Valley food pantries. Information can be found on Page A9 of this newspaper.

All of the donations made through the Send Help campaign stay within our local area. No donation is too small.

We commend the work of these food pantries and the many volunteers who coordinate collecting and distributing food. Their efforts are appreciated now and throughout the year.

These pantries depend on donations of food or money to carry out their mission.

We hope you’ll help.
