County fair is for all to enjoy

We hope you’ll take time to enjoy the Washington County Fair this weekend. It’s that end-of-summer community party that offers something for everyone and it’s economical, too. Admission is just $8 per person and children 2 and under can get in for free. Tuesday is free to veterans and active military personnel and parking costs just $1 all weekend.

Entertainment: No matter what your taste, you’ll find something to enjoy in the entertainment roundup. Fair favorites like tractor pulls, musical acts with local connections, harness racing and bull and bronco riding are back this year.

Food: Fair food is always a draw and this year will be no exception. Make sure to stop and support local organizations like the Lions Club (fries) and Marietta schools (lemon shakes.)

Politics: The Washington County Fair parade kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. in downtown Marietta. It’s always a draw for candidates running for state and local office in the upcoming November elections. Local political parties are likely to be active on the fairgrounds, too. It’s a great time to speak with candidates and learn about their platforms.

Animals: Not to be left out, 4-H youngsters, their projects and their animals are the backbone of this affair. Move-ins and weigh-ins for animals began Friday while judging and showmanship events begin Saturday. The grand finale of the fair, the Junior Fair Livestock Sale, is Tuesday.

The Washington County Fair is where family, community and fun come together in one grand tradition. Don’t miss out.
