Harper a proven steward of financial resources
I support Cathy Harper for Marietta City treasurer. Our current city treasurer is leaving office after 20 years of service to the city of Marietta. The treasurer’s office hasn’t had a negative finding in 20 years, and the dedicated staff is a well-oiled machine with whom Harper has already spent many hours.
The treasurer has little discretion in the conduct of the office but Harper is known to be a responsible, thoughtful, and resourceful person. Ohio Revised Code dictates what investments may be made with taxpayer funds, but under Harper’s leadership the treasurer’s staff, will continue to research avenues for responsible and prudent growth.
Harper served four terms on city council, chairing planning and zoning and serving on employee relations, lands and parks and finance committee. Each of these experiences provided her with a solid foundation to execute the office of city treasurer. Cathy Harper already understands the nuances of our city finances, including the investment strategies and revenue collection that are critical to this position.
Most importantly, for the past 10 years Harper has served our community coalition, The Right Path, in many capacities; planning pro-social and community opportunities for youth and fundraising, grant writing, networking, managing trainings, and growing and managing The Right Path’s budget. She is already a proven steward of financial resources. Having worked in the private sector, she understands the importance of carefully administering our hard-earned dollars.
Harper is an outstanding community member, and she will contribute her work ethic, integrity, and city council experience to the office of city treasurer.
I ask you to vote Cathy Harper for city treasurer on Nov. 5, 2013.
