Some quick facts on government waste

Editor, I’ll make this short …

The salary of retired United States’ presidents, $180,000 for life.

The salary of House/Senate members, $174,000 for life.

The salary of Speaker of the House, $223,500 for life.

The salary of majority/minority leaders, $193,400 for life.

Now then, the average salary of a teacher is around $40,000, and this is not for life. Their job is just as important as our Congress.

Did you know, the average salary of a deployed soldier is $38,000. Ridiculous! Congress has voted for their salary, and have the power to increase our military pay, but they neglect to do so. Why?

You know, the 26th Amendment (granting the right to vote for 18-year-olds) took only three months and eight days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 – before computers, email, cell phones, etc.

This will never happen, but wouldn’t it be nice if a congressman/woman would collect a salary while in office and receive no pay when they’re out of office. Also, wouldn’t it be nice if Congress (past, present and future) would participate with the American people in Social Security. Congress could purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. They have their own health care system. Why couldn’t they participate in the same health care system as the American people?

Our Congress should equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

You know, Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress should be an honor, not a career! Our Founding Fathers envisioned our citizens to serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
