Hollow victory in fight to save Ormet

In response to various stories and letters about Ormet’s demise and what caused it, I can only say that time and time again the union stated at both the Ormet rolling mill and smelter that if they did not get what they wanted, they would put Ormet out of business. Now that they have succeeded in their efforts, they apparently do not like the consequences. I was there when the union pickets cheered their “victory” when the rolling mill was finally closed for good in December 2005. Fortunately, I missed their second “victory” when the smelter was put out of business.
