Earth Day is coming; time to get involved

Marietta’s Earth Day Celebration is fast approaching – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Armory Square.

Now is the time to consider entering the Sweetgum Ball Contest and the Trash-to-Art Contest.

Marietta streets provide an almost unlimited number of sweetgum balls – consider them as raw material for landscaping, ‘sculptures,’ building materials, decorations – you are limited only by your imagination! Start assembling now.

For the Trash-to-Art Contest, you will find your raw materials in the waste basket or recycling bin. Your product might be decorative, functional or artsy.

Prizes will be given in several age groups in each contest.

Bring entries for both contests to Armory Square by 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, then stay for the celebration which will provide fun and informational opportunities until 2 p.m. for people of all ages. A new addition this year will be some feathered visitors from the West Virginia Raptor Rehabilitation Center.

Hope to see you there!
