Tax returns historically lead to trouble

I applaud Donald Trump for citing historic precedents in refusing to release his tax returns. He stands with Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. Before Watergate, a federal court ordered Richard Nixon to release his tax returns due to the income tax fraud case against him. The Republican lead court ordered Nixon to pay over $400,000 in back taxes – while serving as the president of the United States. His argument for not releasing the tax returns – “They were being audited.” As vice president, Spiro Agnew also refused to release his tax returns. He resigned in disgrace after his tax cheating was revealed. Yes, Mr. Trump, historic precedents are very important.
