Kerenyi’s traits as a Marine prepare him for judge

To the good folks of Washington County, I’m writing to share my experience with you about an honorable man running for Common Pleas Court judge in November. Mark Kerenyi is such a man. Kerenyi and I served in the Marine Corps together as a Scout Sniper team before and during Operation Desert Storm. Sniper teams are made up of two men. Being one-half of a two-man team means you eat, sleep, train, and are practically attached by the hip to the other person. Spending years in that role, one gets to know the other pretty well.

Please allow me to tell you a little bit about Kerenyi. I suspect somewhere very early in Kerenyi’s upbringing he developed a fierce passion for pointing out right vs. wrong. He’s always stood up for what was right — always! In our platoon he was no different and, when possible, he sought to correct the wrong. He’d have to argue his point before he could make such a change, and in doing so he effectively became the grand debater in the platoon. He’s been arguing cases with fellow Marines from 1989 until the present day. While in the early days his debating may have struck a few nerves, his sound logic and intelligence earned the respect and admiration from a group of guys that remain friends today. Kerenyi has remained a loyal and admired friend to all who served with him. He’s a devoted husband, father, and friend. His understanding and application of the words “integrity” and “honor” guide his daily life. For the past 27 years, this is how I know Kerenyi to be.

A judge should be fair, honorable, and have a passion for righting wrongs. Kerenyi has proven to have this type of character, both as a Marine and as a friend. When Nov. 8 comes, please consider voting for Mark Kerenyi for judge so that he can continue to serve.
