There’s a real reason why smoking is banned

The “Smoke Clears” story on the front page Nov. 30 neglected to include one iota of information about why smoking was banned indoors in Ohio: smoking kills people.

I am at a complete loss for understanding the purpose of the story written. Some bars lost business?

How many lives were saved in the past 10 years by the indoor smoking prohibition? How many billions of taxpayer dollars were saved in medical bills? How many children were able to avoid second hand smoke and lung cancer because people weren’t permitted to blow smoke around them in public places? How many non-smokers saved a fortune in laundry cleaning costs?

The photograph of the smoker was perfect. It depicted horribly damaged and red blotched facial skin on a 21-year-old who should be in the prime of life.

How about a story about the damage irresponsibly discarded cigarette butts do to our streets, sidewalks, storm systems and animals? How about a story about smokers throwing lit butts out of vehicles during droughts?
