Incoming commissioner says thanks for support

It seems appropriate in this Thanksgiving season to take a moment and say thanks for all the help and support I received during my campaign this summer and fall. I am profoundly grateful for friends and acquaintances alike who took time from their schedule to knock on doors, put up signs, and speak with their own friends and neighbors on my behalf. While this is the first time I have run for office, I have long been around politics and have heard candidates speak about how they are “humbled” by the support they received. I have never fully understood that sentiment until now.

Secondly, I would also like to thank my opponent in this race. Jim Raney was unfailingly kind throughout the campaign since we first met in the spring. We attended many of the same events and we shared the stage at two debates. He challenged my thinking and my positions in such a way that he made me a better candidate. Thank you, Mr. Raney.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the electoral process. Whether I was able to earn your support or not, I salute you for exercising a right hard won by generations of brave soldiers who have fought and died so that we might express our political will as a nation. As we look ahead, may we remain mindful that what unites us as Americans is far greater than what may separate us on individual issues. Thank you, to all of Washington County.
