Fur Ball dance organizers thankful for support
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone responsible for making this event (the humane society’s 11th annual Fur Ball dance and auction) bigger than we could have ever imagined.
We had marvelous weather, which brought so many people out, but unfortunately we still had to turn people away at the door. There doesn’t seem to be a venue big enough to accommodate everyone that wants to support the animals at the shelter. Our HSOV committee is in the process of deciding how to make changes to include all who want to attend.
I want to thank Carol McKitrick, who did a wonderful job of putting the dance and auction together, and the Fur Ball Committee that worked their buns off to make the dance the complete success that it was.
This event was the biggest ever! We were able to raise $24,000 for the animals.
We’d like to thank everyone on Facebook, and Ric at “The Bear” for all the radio coverage, WTAP for having Jeff Meeks and Josie on the morning program, and coming to the dance and putting us on TV.
We owe a big thanks to the Norwood Tavern, The Beach Comber, American Legion Post 159, and Putnam Chocolates and Whipple Tavern for selling our tickets.
Of notable mention was Rick Gorham who donated his antler lamp again this year to the live auction. Carolyn Carr and the Amelia Island Condo, Dr. John Lee for the Pigeon Forge Cabin, Disney World for donating the four tickets for the live auction. Ric from “The Bear” for tickets to Rock on the Range, Alice in Chains and Timberline Skiing and Rick Butler for the beautiful etched beer mugs.
For the girls at the door that handled the crowd with the credit card machine; Becky Johnston, Jane Snell, and Trudy Mendenhall. Jeff Meeks that MC’d the dance, the kids in the kitchen; Weeze Merrow, Carol Lindamood, Diane & Precious Berger, Jake Berger and his girlfriend. And last, but not least, Jeremy Flowers, who was our bar back. What the heck would we have done without him? Forty-seven bags of trash, he counted.
To Barbie Stone, Seig Shrader, Penney Givens for overseeing the silent auction. You guys did a “great” job. And McLeish Auction House for running the live auction. It went smooth as silk.
I’d also like to thank Chris Bender from DaVinci’s for the yummy vittles. And last, but certainly not least, “The Stevens” girls. Mickey Stevens for the outstanding and creative decorations and Tabby Stevens Carpenter for the most wonderful cake I have ever seen. It was the talk of the “Ball”. It was so life like. You would have sworn it was made of resin. No one could believe it was a cake. And that little girl was up all night putting it together and drove an hour down the road in a bouncy pick-up truck to deliver it. What a gal! Thanks again, Tabby, you’re the best!
