Right Path rounds up summer of activities

The Right Path for Washington County just wrapped up our 13th summer of safe teen and family events, thanks to our many supporters and our youth and their families!

Our mission is to promote healthy youth development and we do this through both pro-social and community service opportunities. Throughout the summer we host Tuesday night dances on the Marietta College campus and Friday night family swim nights at the Marietta Aquatic Center, Belpre pool or Beverly pool. Our community service event is our signature Righditarod, our shopping cart race against hunger. This is youth’s opportunity to give back to our food pantries and community, as many families understand what it means to be hungry.

When you pick up the newspaper or other media outlets, you see the national drug epidemic that is encompassing every community, including ours. A slow economy, need for living wage jobs and lack of treatment and support systems are all contributors to this problem. The Right Path’s focus is on prevention, not just drugs and alcohol, but anything that puts our youth at risk for realizing their goals for their future. Thanks to United Way, our “I Am Enough” campaign has grown over the past 2 years since its implementation. This is a reminder that our youth are enough, just like they are, without anything getting in their way.

We will be adding new partner the Betsey Mills club this winter, hosting a first Friday event Nov. 3, and a pre-prom winter dance in February, date to be announced.

The Right Path for Washington County has a Facebook page and all events, as well as resources, are posted. Please check us out!!

Our continued success is due to our many partners including our Right Path board, the Behavioral Health Board, Juvenile Court, IHeart Radio, WMOA, The Marietta Times, City of Marietta, City of Belpre, Public Facilities, Washington County Health Department, Washington County Sheriff, Wendy’s, Marietta College, our many youth and families, United Way, Premier Productions, YMCA, Betsey Mills, Smitty’s, DJ Pat, Food 4 Less, Rotary, Marietta Community Foundation, Spagna’s, VFW, CRJ Vending.

There are countless others who help behind the scenes that deserve our thanks, too, so if I missed you, I apologize!! Many hands make our load lighter. Year 14, here we come!!!
