What do you think? Ideas wanted
January 28, 2009 - Erin O'Neill
For the couple years that I have been here, I have written many of the stories that appear on the Wednesday Life page. Each of our Life pages has a feature-y story that pertains to a certain demographic: Monday is geared toward women, Wednesday, young adults, Friday, animal lovers. I have had a lot of fun with some of these stories because they are usually less heavy than a hard news story, more lighthearted, often tongue-in-cheek and dealing with popular culture. Not rocket science. Usually not depressing. My creative writing degree really comes in handy. However, I have written some stories that, according to commenters on this very Web site, are not worthy of the paper they are printed on. To each his own. That is why we live in a free country. I happen to think moustaches in popular culture are amusing. But I digress... This brings me to my point. What would you like us to write about? I am always seeking new and original ideas from the 18 to 35 audience, being that I am quickly finding my way out of the upper end of the spectrum.
Some ideas for upcoming stories include: - Valentine's Day - what it means to you? Creative ways to celebrate without going broke? Best or worst pick-up lines? - The changing of the Late Night guard with Conan O'Brien taking over The Tonight Show. What did O'Brien bring to late night TV? Why has he been so popular with the younger audience? How will he fare when he takes over for Leno? How will Jimmy Fallon do in the Late Night slot? - What's in your purse/wallet? Building on my own experience, I'm curious to know what young men and women lug around with them on a daily basis. - Rock n Roll Hall of Fame: The induction ceremony will be in Cleveland this year? Does anyone care? Have you favorites been slighted or are you happy with the class list? - How do you celebrate St. Patty's Day? Are you of Irish heritage? Do you get tired of the stereotypes (hard drinking, fighting, ill-tempered..)
