November 23, 2010 - Jennifer Houtman
If readers of the print edition of The Marietta Times think they've seen the picture on today's Page 1 before - they're right. The main photo on the front page of Tuesday, Nov. 23, is a picture of a "pat-down" at an airport. It's the same picture that ran on our nation page the day before.
Readers may know we subscribe to the Associated Press and often, the wire service sends various versions and updates of the same story. In this case, a variety of stories on the topic of the new search procedures moved on the wire, but the photo didn't change. Different editors lay out the front page and the nation page, and so it wasn't noticed until the paper printed that the same photo was used. It should have been caught, but in the rush of deadline it was overlooked.
I will no doubt hear about this at an upcoming noon Rotary meeting. There, Sgt. at Arms Bob Kirkbride will likely point out our mistake in his humorous report and I will be "fined." Bob is an avid reader of The Times and our mistakes don't get by him. He especially likes to point out when we've "doubled" our efforts.
