40 years! Really!
June 4, 2012 - Jim Bartholow
Before my work anniversary passes on June 12, I want thank everyone who ever helped me along the way as a reporter, sports writer, editorial writer, headline writer, layout editor, copy editor, and apple pie judge during these past 40 years on the job at The Marietta Times. It has been a great ride and I'm looking ahead to even more years of helping bring the news to our readers.
Special thanks go to my family that's had to put up with odd hours, long work days, and the usual angst that comes along with this business. That goes in spades for my wife Leslie, who has kept things together all these years in spite of what life throws at us.
1972 was a big year for sure. Graduation from OU, starting work here, and getting married on Oct. 21.
I'm one lucky guy.
Now about those Indians ...
Things looked so bright after a three-game sweep of the Tigers, then devastating injuries and pitching woes set in quickly. A three game sweep by Chicago, and lost series to KC and Minnesota followed. To be sure the rest of June is vital. Cleveland goes to Detroit, then to St. Louis, and then to Cincinnati. If manager Manny Acta can keep it together during this stretch the season may be saved. That would be fantastic, like the first 6 weeks of the season.
This team needs a healthy leader. Johnny Damon? Jason Kipnis? Chris Perez? Derek Lowe? Something's gotta give and I hope it's for the best. I'll be watching and hoping.
