Prom shopping doesn’t have to break the bank

As the school year nears the end and students race toward the finish line, there is one big event that keeps high school juniors and seniors eager—prom.

Prom has been the definition of high school to many throughout the years, and even may be the one thing some remember most about their high school experience.

Unfortunately, one aspect of a dance-filled evening could turn fun into foul.

Prom can quickly turn a bad corner when the reality of costs is brought to the table. At Elizabeth Michaels in Vienna, W.Va., the dresses can cost anywhere between $200 and $4,000.

“Last year, we had a girl buy a $4,000 dress, and several who bought $2,000 dresses. We haven’t had that this year because of the economical situation,” said Nancy Engelke, with Elizabeth Michaels.

Elizabeth Michaels also offers a $10 discount on certain shoes, ranging in price from $100 to $187, with the purchase of a gown.
