Morgan State holds off Marshall 72-67

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.(AP) — Marquise Kately scored 15 points and Reggie Holmes added 14 as Morgan State defeated Marshall 72-67 in the opening round of the Glenn Wilkes Classic on Friday.

Marshall (1-1) trailed by five points with 39 seconds left, but missed three free throws in the final minute.



Kately scored 13 of his points in the first half to propel Morgan State (2-2) to a 37-30 halftime lead. Holmes took over in the second half, scoring 11 points. Rico Myles claimed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bears.

Markel Humphrey led the Thundering Herd with 17 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Shaquille Johnson added 13 points.

Morgan State took the lead for good at 16-14 with 8:36 left in the first half. The Bears increased the margin to 17 points at 49-32 with 15:32 remaining and held on despite the Marshall rally.
