Tigers roaring
With arguably the best quarterback in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League, Marietta High could bear some watching this fall. Of course, one player never makes up any football team, and senior southpaw signal caller Cody Westbrook will definitely need some help if the Tigers are going to bounce back from last season’s 3-7 campaign. “Cody’s a great quarterback,” said first-year MHS head coach Andy Schob, who is succeeding Brian Spicer. “And, I think with our line and running game, that will take some pressure off him and add another dimension to the kind of team we want to be.” As a junior, Westbrook earned several postseason honors by completing 143 of 314 passes for a school-record 2,203 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 16 throws intercepted. “Cody’s a great quarterback, and one of the best in the SEOAL,” said senior wide receiver Zane Eschbaugh. “He can jump, run and do just about anything. He’s pretty tough.
