Read the SCOTUS "Heller v District of Columbia" ruling. Yes, it overturned a draconian and silly attempt by D.C. locals to ban handguns, BUT the majority report (written by Scalia) ALSO says "the right-to-bear-arms is not unlimited" and that government DOES have a right to restrict ownership of certain types of firearms, and to prohibit certain persons - felons and the mentally-ill - from buying or owning guns. All that remains to be determined is the definition of "mentally-ill". A good case can be made that paranoid persons who constantly yap about "conspiracies" and their "right" to overthrow duly-elected government officials might fit into that "mentally-ill" category! Check the mirror, guys and gals!

The rightwing paranoia-machine continues. Judging from the silly comments of "Mariettaveteran", so do the lies and attacks on anyone advocating a common-sense (i.e. non-NRA) approach to dealing with national tragedies like Sandy Hook! You righties who simply (pun-intended) regard these "discussions" about gun-control as some kind of "game" might want to take a trip to Newtown, CT and ask the parents of the 20 slaughtered children if it really happened! All you are proving here is that your selfish and childish love of things that go "bang" outweighs your concern for the innocent victims of these crimes!

After the demokrats get done playing around with our second amendment rights and LOSING that battle, and trying to enslave us with their silly feel good laws, maybe they can start working on a bill to ban hammers and clubs.

According to the FBI, "More People Killed with Hammers, Clubs Each Year Than Rifles ". Hey munster, since you, oneill, and irisheyes don't like firearms, why don't y'all post a sign in your yard that says "CRIMINAL PROTECTION ZONE". That way no criminals breaking into your home will get hurt lol.

NasCarNut. I would say there were 100,000 other responsible owners there. 5 were not. I agree with you as do all gun owners. Was a mistake that resulted in an accident. How many times do people make mistakes that do not result in an accident but could have? My gun is always unloaded with the action open when not in use, and when being transported.

January 19th is Gun Appreciation Day?

Five people were wounded in accidents at gun shows in North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana on Saturday, according to authorities.

Whatever happened to "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A EMPTY GUN!". Treat all firearms as if they are loaded. Shouldn't these folks at gun shows know this...I wonder how many people that go to these shows are truly "responsible gun owners".

Irish, I believe it's you who are going to be very unhappy. I do not see Congress going along with the legislative proposals Obama has demanded. And frankly, I don't believe he even thinks they'd be accepted.

IMHO, he floated those plans, knowing they would be rejected. Then, he'll come out with his usual whining, complaining that the mean, old Republicans, and that evil NRA has rejected them. He'll claim he tried to insure the safety of our kids, that he did all he could. It all those mean conservative's fault!

250,000 new memberships to the NRA since 12-14-12. I just up graded to a lifetime member and donated $50 more to the cause. God bless the NRA and legal gun owners in the USA.

I hear all these anti gun nuts keep saying the NRA members support more gun control. That is complete BS!. The NRA is against any more gun control.

I can tell you libs 99% of obamas gun control will never come to light. He may get the background checks for private sales IF it has exemptions for selling within your family. If it don't have that exemption, NO DEAL!!

And oneill your wanting to ask people on background checks if they are a member of a militia group is ridiculous and is none of your business! That will not happen.

Freddy, clearly you missed the point of the NRA ad. Everyone knows Secret Service agents go with every member of the Obama family, everywhere they go. The point is, IN ADDITION to Secret Service protection for the Obama girls, Sidwell Friends School has an armed security force of it's own. David Gregory also made a big stink over the proposal that schools have armed protection. His children attend Sidwell Friends as well.

And we're well aware of which people you feel are not mentally capable of being allowed firearms. That list includes everyone who disagrees with you.

R1KRA8, it can make a working cresent wrench. Yes. It is time we sell the New England states back to England for a very cheap price. Piers Morgan can facilitate the deal. California can be sold to Mexico. We can maybe put a dent in the nat. debt. I think some "parents" were planted in the Sandy Hook trajedy to sensationalize it because Real Parents were too shook up to talk.

New York Passed a Gun Control Law So They Could See What Was in It

By Katie Pavlich

“The legislation that was passed only allows New York residents to carry seven bullets in a maximum ten round magazine at a time and requires gun registration.”

“The problem? Cuomo didn't read the bill and failed to notice legislators forgot to exempt law enforcement.”

In their rush to exploit the tragedy in Sandy Hook & trample on the civil rights of New Yorkers, the New York legislature rammed through legislation which inadvertently limited law enforcement officers as well, (limiting them to 7 rounds in a magazine). In doing so, they just proved the stupidity of their own legislation - limiting the good guys with guns does nothing to prevent the bad guys with guns – who don’t give a rat’s behind about any legislation.

Such is the brilliance of tyrants & those who support them.

(BTW, now they will have to amend within the 60 day window permitting those changes.)

Competitive shooting is a sport, Some use pistols which range from 8-16 or so shots in a magezine. Some of the sport events require multiple shots at targets with the best time. It is all hand-eye coordination, which makes it a sport. I have these weapons for sport, and alot of other people do too. So before you critisize people who own them and say they are only used for killing, you are very very wrong.

Background check for ammo? no prblem, ill just reload my own, create a black market for them. Bann Military assault rifles? did pohibition work? nope, just made it worse, remember the black market?

Oh oniell, you proabably liked Kennedy too? you know they got there fortune from bootlegging during the prohibition? enough said, Oneill, I hope people protest your stupidy on the street in front of your house...

Oneill, Ive figured you out. After finding out who you really are, I can see it, you dont work, you pretty much rely on the government, you are a registered democrat. All you do all day is come on here and start your drama because thats what "gets you off"

Some people ask, what do you use an ar-15 for? well some of us are competitive shooters like I, it is our hobby, just like your hobby with coming on here and expressing your opinions. I do go out west and hunt, I use an AR for WildBoar/Coyotes. I cant explain to you why i like to shoot weapons, it is just fun for me and millions of other people. We must maintain a militia but we cant with shotguns when the military has assault weapons. If they can have it, we can have it. Why dont you come out with me oniell to the shooting range, i will teach you to respect guns, and heck, maybe you would enjoy it, maybe read you a few history lessons on what amendments really mean. Why your thinking about it, why dont you search United

Is this a gun control issue, or a mental health issue, clearly an individual with sound reasoning ablilities, would not have done this act.

This will undoubtedly create more govt. databases of info on who has guns and how many, but this was already coming, how many spoke up against the NDAA, the Patriot act, why even if you sell beer/pop cans to your local recycler, that info is going into a database of the Homeland sec. dept. Blame Obama all you want, it was civil liberties under attack for decades and as long as it was a certain parties ideas it was fine. Point all accusing fingers at the mirror. But dont you feel much safer now?

Idiots fly planes into buildings, laws are passed to allow govt, to put hands in 5 year olds pants, need to be safe.

5 year old are slaughtered, need to stop this, some options have same ones wanting kids to be safe, panties in a knot. Great to live in a free country, if you can afford it. What was NRA`S reaction to the Black Panthers arming themselves. check it out.

The NRA lobby group has actually borrowed some lobbying tactics from their opponents over the years, used them against them and they don't like being beat with their own tactics. Sweet. Yes, it is not your grandfathers NRA or we would be losing.
