Just close Lawrence and don't let people in that area bully the board into keeping it open! Any school with less than 100 students costs too much per pupil to operate. If Lawrence parents want their school so bad, they should all be assesed a fee for each student.

Begame I happen to be one of those parents that you referred to in your comment. As a matter of fact I would gladly pay to allow my child attend Lawrence Elementary. I am also sure that all of the other parents in the Lawrence area would to if we could just be left alone.

To begame: I also am one of "those" Lawerence parents, and as a matter of fact, I actually live in Newport. You see, the ONLY thing that this school district pays for at Lawrence is the electricity, and the wages of the teachers/janitorial staff. As of late, we don't even have a cook on staff anymore. Ninety percent of our upkeep is done by the community, with funds from our PTL, that OUR children raised. So before you go spewing your opinions about how much money it costs to run our school, maybe you should do a little research as to how much money this district actually spends on our school, as compared to what it costs to run the NEWER IS BETTER schools in Newport and New Mat. And as for us "bullying" the BOE, it's not bullying, it's standing up for what's best for our kids. If that's wrong, then I don't want to be right.

Close Lawrence and give the building back to the community to start a private school. My guess, it would be the best school in the district.
