Looking at the list of proposed sites, these dams are to be placed everywhere there is a lock, each one a part of the Muskingum River Navigation System. How will these plants affect the locks and dams, which were designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2001, and their part in the Muskingum River State Park? And, when flooding occurs, which it will, how will the plants be affected - and how will they affect their surroundings? And, while seeming crass, why are people always "looking for jobs" rather than trying to find a way to use their talents to be self-employed? I have known people who were perfectly fine carpenters who, when the "season" ended, just sat & spent the winter drinking beer, collecting unemployment. They could easily have spent the months upgrading their skills, building cabinets, tables, whatever. Just sayin'.

With businesses closing down, laying off workers, we need jobs in this area. As for the fly, until now, how many of the people suddenly not wanting this dam, were spraying and swatting the fly last summer?

Good gracious oldhickory! The epa "tends to favor business ventures"??? Where do you learn that? lol

I saw one of those almost extinct flies around that area of the proposed dam. Maybe residents can hold up the project and we can spend millions to study the flies.

Uh bwc, enviro extremism and a lot of people who inhabit that movement are kommunists and socialist sympathizers. And they use environmental issues as a tool to hold up progress and businesse ventures they don't like.

Reggie...I agreon't think you'll find ANY business people that would say the current EPA is business-friendly. Actually it's quite the opposite. They are forcing businesses out of business everyday and causing those that survive to spend a ton of money on impact studies and to install environment-protecting equipment, etc. If a business wanted to locate where these hydro plants will be located I can almost guarantee they wouldn't be allowed or the EPA-related costs would make the business venture cost-prohibitive. In fact, if this project weren't a green energy project (that by the way is probably receiving a boatload of taxpayers' dollars and incentives) it would probably never be approved in the proposed locations.

oldhickory, I agreed with you until you made the comment about the EPA. They are stronger than ever and will love this as it is a "green" project. They are not nearly as generous with most of the business world. Save the newt, save the minnow, save the lizard. The he!! with jobs.

So does this mean that it is a done deal? The last few paragraphs gave me the impression that it was. I can see advantages to such a project but the negative effects must be thoroughly explained and thoughtfully considered. The government does have the right to imminent domain. And, of course there is the ‘watered down’ EPA that tends to favor business ventures, so by the sound of it, I would conclude that the project will go forward.
