Just another drunk who is stupid. He deserves more than the judge will give him. Criminals are stupid.

You guys have to realize that he has to WANT help in order to get better. Most addicts do not try to turn their life around until they hit rock bottom. He has now hit rock bottom. Robert Downey Jr. had tons of money and access to the best possible care in the world at the multiple drug/alcohol treatment facilities in the U.S. He did not get serious and become sober until he was sentenced to jail time. Look at Lindsay Lohan, no jail time incident after incident and stay after stay in rehab but still using. If he truely wanted to stop AA is free and everyday in the mid-ohio valley and they really do support each other.

Alcoholics and addicts may know that what they are doing is wrong but the disease has them whipped.!! They may want to quit and can't or they may not. I liken it to being possessed by a demon (drugs) that a person needs help to overcome. That will happen if the person hits rock bottom and honestly wants to quit. If a person prays to the God of their understanding then they will be helped if they seriously ask Him for help. For once I agree with Tessie.

Ask not he is going to jail. For now he will not be out so he cannot run over and kill anyone while driving drunk. That is 14 months where the public will to have to worry about him. True there others are out there and there is little help. In this day and age , it does not like like any money will be available for rehab program for the poor, and for those with insurance , rehab programs are not 100 % covered if lucky, you might get four weeks. What we have now is what we have, you drive drunk, eventually you go to jail. That is at least a reprieve from this man who does nt look like he has any plans for stopping. I think you are the one picturing utopia, not ,me.

I agree with marietta nurse, you have to want help. This man has had 6 arrests , and because nothing had ever to happened to keep him from driving, he continues to do it. If this man had mowed a few people down and badly hurt them , we would not have all these people outraged that he was finally going to jail. We would have a public outcry that he had 6 arrests . I'm sorry for his nice family ,but 6 arrests is 6 too many. Tessie is right , there is 14 months this man will not be driving and maybe he will get aa help in jail. Hopefully this will be the mans wake up call. Tell me what you would do with here Asknot ,force him to get help? What if he does not want it,? Do you just say poor man he has a disease? Marietta does not have much in the way of free help, even if it did ,he would have to feel he has a problem and accept help. L and p services has cancellations daily of people who just no show. Maybe in your free time, you can volunteer as a sober coach and get them there.

True that alcoholism and drug addiction are illnesses. Also true that people have to WANT to get better. AA and NA, counseling, medications like vivetrol and campral and suboxone are very successful if a person WANTS TO HELP THEMSELVES. I'll bet those who are crying over this man going to prison would have a different viewpoint if he had run over their family member as he drove drunk over and over again

Although alcoholism is a disease, you cannot and should not continue to drive under the influence . This msn has again and agisn. The last arrest occurred after have a drink or 2 or five with co workers. His irsrt words to th officer to stopped him were I'm drunk you know it and I know . If it was that evident there was many solutions, taxi, designated driver, a family member to come get him. He chose to drive and there was drunk driving arrest number 6! I do not feel sorry for him , he should have been arrested way before this. Cry me a river for alcoholics and druggies, it is also their responsibility to clean up their act, snd get help, before getting arrested 6 times for the same offense.

All the treatment and jail time in the world won't help this man until he chooses to stop drinking. 14 months in prison without access to alcohol (we hope) may interrupt the cycle long enough for him to conclude he no longer wants to drink.

BTW, there are AA & NA meetings in prison. AA has the best results for alcoholics.

Alcoholism is a disease and prison won't cure it for anyone. What this man and so many others need is help. When he comes out of prison in 14 months, he'll be that much more negative about his life. Why isn't there medication and treatment for drug and alcohol abuse instead of just locking people up so they come out the same way they went in? If it were a lesson that they could learn, they'd learn it, but it isn't. It's a disease; it needs treated.

The law needs to be changed . With this many arrests this man should not be driving and he should have served jail time after arrest number 3/he will go on drinking and driving till he severely injures or kills someone .

If this sentence was handed down earlier, maybe he wouldn't have been out risking other people’s lives again. Ridiculous!
