Thrift, we can not reasonably expect that every attempt at terror will be thwarted. It will not happen no matter how vigilant we are. Again, not the time to be bringing this stuff up.

Duffel bag / backpack explosive was used in the 1996 Atlanta summer Olympics. This is a vector that is known and studied -- this should have been thwarted. This says we're also incompetent at preventing KNOWN, PRIOR methods of attack. But, SOMETHING will come out of this, however misdirected it might obviously be.....

I find it amazing that even when something like this happens, the law-abiding citizens lose more of their rights and face more regulations and added costs, none of which are ever effective against this kind of mayhem. We spend $10B to REACT to every event like this, and the next one is unique and unanticipated.

JoshBrown, it is conjecture on your part. In case you missed it, the Saudi national in the hospital is not a suspect. You are basing your conjecture on incomplete and old facts. Your rush to judgement needs to be tempered. Have you not learned that the media gets so much wrong in a rush to get the story out. Relax, and let the authorities do their jobs. Now is not the time.

It's not about hate or religion it's about facts they have a Muslim in the hospital that is the main suspect. They're saying he's not a suspectGreat to try and find more of the people involved.

JoshBrown, speculating on the cause is just plain ole stupid. It has no place in the discussion at this point in time. People are CURRENTLY suffering and that should be the focus. There will be plenty of time in the future for lines to be drawn once we have more facts. Until that time comes, people should act in a more dignified manner and put the petty crap aside.

I find it amazing that even when something like this happens, there are those so filled with political/religious hatred that they can't put it aside even for a few days. It was this same kind of hatred that caused this to happen, just from another view... Lets end the hate and come together, if even just for a little bit!

Need to ban high capacity trash cans.....this event will in fact mark the end of any available trash cans at large public gatherings....terrorists win again. I do agree with Harley, need to put away "PC" politics and profile and remove terrorists before they act; take some lessons from Israel. Meanwhile, Rahm has more people dead in Chicago every weekend; and that's a fact, not politics.

Very well said Harley,I have so much sympathy for the victims, especially the children. Their families will have to deal with so much grief at what should have been a happy time.i cannot imagine what an awful twisted person/ persons would kill and maim innocent people and try to have some cause to justify it all. What a very sick place our world has become. My prayers are with Boston.

It would be nice to put away politics and come together as Americans in light of this terroristic event. Prayers for the victims and their families. I also pray for the full weight of the USA to come down on the cowardly terrorists that are responsible for this act.
